The former Barney’s New York multi-floor department store at 15 E. Oak was transitioned into street-level retail stores with office spaces on the floors above.
The building underwent a complete gut renovation, including infilling the existing spiral stairs to create full floorplates for new corporate and retail tenants. Design began with a focus on high-end aesthetics and luxury, aiming to create a seamless connection between the interior spaces and the character of the Gold Coast neighborhood. Elevator lobbies, common corridors, and restrooms serve as the first impression for tenants, with tall ceilings that curve around the core, subtly guiding movement through the space.
Soft textures, organic shapes, and accents of brass introduce a sense of warmth and luxury to the common areas, while the curves extend into the restrooms and wellness room, maintaining consistency throughout.
The project offered a rare opportunity to honor the building’s legacy while elevating it into a space that offers both comfort and high design for new tenants.
